Weekend

It’s Friday. You wake up, you feel motivated to get through the day cause you know this afternoon you will have reached the weekend. What is it about the weekend that draws us to hurry through the week? Is it the fact you get to drink coffee from a real mug vs. a travel mug? Ha. I’ve been there. I know how it feels to drudge through the work week. To anticipate the weekend and try and forget about everything that needs to get done during the week. All of that changed for me when I started focusing on the process and not the results. So what is this process I’m referring to? Hmm, I think it’s generic enough to be used across multi-disciplines. I work in manufacturing. In a lean environment (I mean number of leaders, but I also mean the lean methodology). So getting things done is a sought after premium. But how do you do it? Well here’s what I’ve learned over my career:

  1. You can’t do it alone. Regardless of the people on your team, or even if you’re a solo entrepreneur, you still need to delegate some things. Your team is an invaluable asset! So use them!
  2. Whatever you’re doing – you’re doing it for a purpose. You are awesome and have a purpose for your life. However you’re carrying out that purpose, and even if you don’t feel as if you know your purpose – what you are currently doing is meaningful. So focus on the purpose behind the actions.
  3. Review daily. I think we forget how much we’ve accomplished. I think we forget that we knock things out daily and as long as we’re moving and even if taking small steps, we’re moving toward a greater accomplishment.
  4. Rest daily. Take time to rest and rewind. Relax and recover. Yes, the weekend is built for this. Even God rested after His work. So take the time to rest each day and be the best version of you, you can.

How do you view the weekend? How do you feel about making it to Friday and then transitioning into the weekend? Do you see it as an extension of your purpose? Whatever it is, I hope you have an awesome weekend!!
